 WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES WITH REDROW HOMES

As part of their support of OBA, our fantastic new sponsors, Redrow Homes, are offering some great work experience opportunities specially for members of Only Boys Aloud.

This is an excellent opportunity to find out about the various jobs available in a company such as Redrow and, as you’ll see, it’s not all about bricklaying (although that is part of it). Also, it might just give you a foot in the door if you enjoy the placement and think you might be interested in getting a job in the profession later.

Here are the details:

Age Range            Available to those who are aged 16 and above

Dates                    There are three weeks planned between January and July 2012.

Monday 13 – Friday 17 February 2012

Monday 16 –Friday 20 April 2012

Monday 4 – Friday 8 June 2012

 

Placements          

Each week, 6 boys will be able to take up a place, so there will be an opportunity for 18 boys in total during the scheme

Placements are available in the following areas (2 boys each week in each category):

  • Sales

Joining the Sales Team will mean you get the opportunity to shadow Debby Pavitt, Sales Director (South Wales) initially, this could mean attending meetings with designers, discussions about pricing, legal matters and  staff issues for example.  After that you will spend time at a Redrow development meeting prospective customers face- to- face, maybe showing people around and finding out about the day-to-day running of a sales office on site.

  • Construction

Joining the construction team means you’ll be with Project Managers and Site Managers during the week maybe travelling around sites overseeing what’s involved in running and managing the building of a housing development

  • Technical

Joining the Technical team will give you an insight into all the areas in which they work.  On an average day the team might be designing new Redrow houses,  preparing working drawings of house and site layouts, attending project meetings and working on planning and building regulations to name but a few.

 

Location of work placements

On the Monday of each week, those taking part will need to get to Redrow’s Cardiff office for part of the first day.  If you are not able to get a lift, Redrow will cover your travel expenses for the visit.  After that, those boys working in Sales and Construction will then be based at a Redrow site nearest to their homes.  Those joining the Technical Team, will however, be Cardiff- based for the week.

As well as the Work Experience placements Redrow will also be letting you know about their Apprenticeship schemes from Autumn 2012 onwards as they would be delighted if any OBA boys wanted to apply for one of those.  More details about that will follow soon.
